About our workshops and events

Cycling Brisbane believes that it’s not enough to simply tell people to ride; we provide hundreds of workshops every year throughout the city to support you to learn by doing. Our workshops are run by qualified instructors who teach everything from safer techniques for riding on the road through to mountain biking and riding with kids. It’s a great way to learn, but don’t just take our word for it.

Workshop testimonials

“I learnt a lot and feel more confident about cycling on the road now.”

“The maintenance sessions are excellent.”

“My daughter went from refusing to get on her bike at all to riding by herself.”

“[The workshop] was pitched perfectly to what I wanted to know.”

Find a workshop

Workshops are free, although booking is essential as many sessions fill up. Visit the events calendar to find out what is happening or choose from the list below. You can also read more about our accredited bike skills trainers.

We also run free group rides that explore Brisbane’s bikeways.

Our popular In Your Neighbourhood events are held beside bikeways on weekends. Come along and pedal your own smoothie, get a bike safety check, try an electric or cargo bike, and talk to the Cycling Brisbane team about how you can get riding more often in your local area. All activities are free.

Brisbane by Bikeways

This workshop is for people who are keen to ride on the city’s many bikeways, but would like to brush up on the basics of riding a bike. You’ll learn about basic riding skills and cycling etiquette from our friendly instructors.

Bike skills for adults

You’ll learn about clear communication when riding on the road, and have a chance to practice your new skills with our qualified and experienced instructors providing feedback and guidance. The instructors will also provide tips on journey planning and safety.

Speed Date an Electric Bike

This workshop provides with you an opportunity to learn more about electric bikes and try one on a riverside bikeway. Electric bikes have a small rechargeable engine, but also keep you pedalling so you get the best of both worlds: the benefits of exercise and a power boost when you need it.

Mountain bike riding

Learn to ride off-road and on trails. We run three levels of workshops – beginner, intermediate and advanced – for adults and kids.

Kids riding

Wheely Fun is for children who want to ditch their training wheels or are just learning the basics. Junior bike riding skills is for kids who can already ride and are ready to learn the skills they need to have fun on the bikeways.

Kids Treasure Hunt

Bike riding has become even more fun for kids where they can jump on their bike and seek out the treasure hidden in the local park.

Maintain your bike

We run regular workshops across the city where you can learn to maintain your bike for free. Watch how it’s done, and then apply your new knowledge to your own bike. This workshop is also available as a women-only session.

BMX riding

BMX workshops cover a variety of riding skills and skate park etiquette. We work with Council’s Chillout program and experienced BMX riders to create sessions that young people want to go to.

In Your Neighbourhood

In Your Neighbourhood events are held beside bikeways on weekends. Come along and pedal your own smoothie, get a bike safety check, try an electric or cargo bike, and talk to the Cycling Brisbane team about how you can get riding more often in your local area.
