Riding on bikeways

Brisbane’s bikeway network continues to grow and provide an alternative way of getting around the city. Many bikeways are shared paths, and people riding bikes are required to give way to other users such as people walking. It is also legal for people to ride a bike on the footpath, unless otherwise signed.

As more and more people use our shared path network on bikes, on foot and on scooters, it's important that we work togehter in harmony. Bicycle Queensland and Cycling Brisbane have teamed up to help spread the message that however you choose to get around, share the path!

You can also view this on Council's YouTube account.

Before cycling, check the temporary bikeway and shared pathway closures that may affect your bike ride.

If you see a hazard or safety concern along a bikeway, report it to Council by:

  • completing the Report it: bikeway maintenance form
  • phoning Council’s Customer Contact Centre on 07 3403 8888
  • sending an SMS/MMS including a photo, details of the problem, the location and your name to 04292 FIX IT (0429 234 948).
